November 25th to December 10th each year marks the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The campaign first launched in 1991, beginning on the International Day Against Violence Against Women and ending on International Human Rights Day. Other important dates are recognized during the campaign, including International Women Human Rights Defenders Day (November 29th), World AIDS Day (December 1st), and the Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre (December 6th).

The 16 Day Campaign is serves to both raise awareness of violence against women as a violation of human rights as well as an organized, global call for the elimination of violence against women. This campaign also focuses on strengthening local work around ending violence against women.

Violence against women does not take place solely between November 25th and December 10th, it occurs year-round. The 16 Days Campaign fights to end everyday violence against women and protect the human rights of women and girls across the globe.
