A new provision of the Government Decree 49/1997. (IX. 10.) on the Procedure of the Public Guardianship Authority and Child Protection entered into force on July 1, 2005. The provision proposes mediation between the parents to resolve cases involving dispute about visitation rights. Although mediation as a tool of achieving a compromise between conflicting parents will be available on a voluntary basis, it is expected that authorities shall press parents to undergo such process, especially because there is no provision denying the legitimacy of mediation in cases of domestic violence and child abuse.
