Please find attached a history of the Anti-Violence Network of Georgia that was recently made available to STOPVAW. The organization was established in October 2003. The founders of the network include seven leaders of the women’s movement in Georgia and members of the Open Society Georgia Foundation Women’s Program community. The network seeks to contribute to the building of a non-violent society by recording cases of violence against human beings and ensuring an appropriate response, by raising government and public awareness about the problem of domestic violence, by preparing publications, by coordinating anti-violence activities in cooperation with the media, by creating a crisis centers network, and by operating a shelter for the victims of domestic violence.
The network serves as monitor for Georgia in connection with the National Violence Against Women Monitor Program established in May 2004 by the Network Women's Program of the Open Society Institute and The Advocates for Human Rights.
