Contributed by Yuliya Gureyeva, Azerbaijan National VAW Monitor In 2005 and in the first 11 months of 2006, 8,948 crimes were committed against women in Azerbaijan, including 6,717 crimes against individuals. According to APA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Vilayat Eyvazov, in a speech to Milli Mejlis, 4,648 of these crimes were acts of beating, 1,198 referred to a deliberate health hazard, 213 involved sexual relations with persons under 16 and other sexual acts, 73 were rapes, 49 involved torture, 45 were acts of a sexual nature, 10 were forced sexual acts and 7 involved indecent deeds.
