Calendar of actions by the Women’s Rights Center in the Framework of “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence“

The Women’s Rights Center (WRC), in cooperation with the Armenian Women’s Resource Center NGO, organized a Domestic Violence seminar for students and teaching staff of the Yerevan State University. Ts.Karapetyan, the WRC psychologist, presented to the attention of participants the history, significance and importance of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence“ annual campaign. A.Hakobyan, the WRC lawyer, presented the WRC Hot Line service, Crisis Center, as well as the StopVAW (Stop Violence against Women, www.StopVAW.org) website. The students and the lecturers actively participated in the discussions of the situation on domestic violence in Armenia, the role of the law-enforcement agencies in its prevention and the assistance the victims of domestic violence are provided with.
Booklets, leaflets and calendars on the theme were disseminated among the participants.

A meeting with the teaching staff of high school #151 after R.Sevak was organized by the WRC lawyer R.Haroutyunyan and the WRC psychologist Ts.Karapetyan. They presented to the attention of participants the the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence“ annual campaign. A.Hakobyan, the WRC lawyer, presented the WRC Hot Line service, Crisis Center and the StopVAW (Stop Violence against Women, www.StopVAW.org) website.
A preliminary agreement was reached with the principle of the school regarding organizing similar meetings with pupils of the 9th and 10th grade.

A meeting with 9th and 10th grade pupils of high school #128 after L.Tolstoy was organized by the WRC lawyer R.Haroutyunyan and the WRC psychologist Ts.Karapetyan. The “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence“ annual campaign was presented to the attention of the participants. A.Hakobyan, the WRC lawyer, presented the WRC Hot Line service, Crisis Center, as well as the StopVAW (Stop Violence against Women, www.StopVAW.org) website.

A Trailer of the Hot line was broadcasted by the Armenian National Public Television.

The staff of the WRC disseminated leaflets, booklets, books and posters of the National Hot Line throughout the city.
6 December, 2005
The WRC, in cooperation with World Vision, organized a seminar for parents of the World Vision’s children beneficiaries. Z.Shahinyan, the WRC psychologist, presented to the attention of participants the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence“ annual campaign, the services of the WRC. A.Hakobyan, the WRC lawyer, answered the questions of the participants regarding legal aspect of domestic violence.
Corresponding literature was disseminated among the participants.
3 December, 2005
A.Hakobyan and R.Haroutyunyan, the WRC lawyers, participated in the My Right TV show of the Armenian National Public television.
7 December, 2005
Z.Shahinyan, the WRC psychologist, participated in the Caucasian Crossroad program of the Freedom radio station. The theme of the program was Domestic Violence in Armenia. Z.Shahinyan presented the results of the sociological survey undertaken by the WRC, the “16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence“ annual campaign and the services of the WRC, particularly the National Hot Line.
