Contributed by: Vanja Mikulic and Irena Milatovic, Montenegro National VAW Monitors Montenegrin and Croatian police, within the operation “Split,” has arrested one person from Niksic, Montenegro, suspected for smuggling people across the territory of Montenegro, as stated by the Police Agency of Montenegro. The Police Agency also stated that the international chain for trafficking in persons from Kosovo and Albania over the territory of Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia to Slovenia and EU countries has been interrupted. The police believe that the Montenegrin citizen, arrested in Tuzi near Podgorica, has been planning and conducting the transport of Albanian citizens trough Montenegro, and that he was responsible for their illegal border transit from Grahovo to Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the aim of handing them over to an international criminal group from BiH.
Up until now, through the operation “Split,” the Croatian police have arrested 27 persons, the Slovenian police have arrested 6 persons, and the Bosnian police have arrested 2 people.
