The National Action Plan for Gender Equality was created by the National Committee for the Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the Department for Promotion of Gender Equality in 1999. The Government of the Republic of Macedonia reviewed and approved the plan in December 1999. The National Action Plan promises to "[enable] efficient protection and punishment in the case of women's rights violation, regardless of the status of the violator and his relationship with the victim. The government has outlined a number of different measures to be taken to successfully implement the National Action plan.
