New Project on Training and Discussion on Domestic Violence Legislation Started under the Soros Foundation Kyrgyzstan

Responsible Entity: Women’s network program of the “Soros-Kyrgyzstan.

Duration: 20 May -15 November 2006.

Project title: “Increase of capacity of responsible structures and improvement of legislation of Kyrgyzstan for prevention of domestic violence in family.”

Main problems of the Project:

  1. Non-compliance of the Kyrgyzstan law “ON SOCIAL – LEGAL PROTECTION from DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”  and other acting laws of  the Kyrgyz Republic;
  2. Lack of developed judicial mechanisms for enacting of the law “ON SOCIAL – LEGAL PROTECTION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”;
  3. Lack of communication between the major executive institutes of this law;
  4. Lack of monitoring of the implementation of the law.

Project goal: Improved Kyrgyzstan legislation on preventing domestic violence, and capacity development of judicial and law protecting bodies in the area of preventing violence against women.
