In December 2007, the Social Service Agency of the Protestant Church in Germany’s “Bread for the World” campaign released a report (PDF, 114 pages) on its international project, Overcoming Domestic Violence. The project is part of the World Council of Churches' decade on Overcoming Violence. The report follows four years of research on the connections between domestic violence, development work and social work, recognizing that domestic violence threatens the very roots of society. The report contains seven chapters, beginning with the author’s recommendations from the project in Chapter A. The rest of the chapters place domestic violence within an international human rights framework (B), discuss domestic violence’s roots (C), its effects on development (D), relevant international law milestones (E), practical strategies culled from project experiences around the world (F), and the importance of monitoring development projects to ensure women’s full participation(G).
