Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro Has Passed the Law on Gender Equality

The Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro, during its session beginning 24 July 2007, adopted the Law on Gender Equality proposed by the Government of Montenegro. The Law is published in the Official Journal number 46/07 from 31 July and entered into force on 8 August 2007.

This law, for the first time in our legislative history, promotes gender equality as one of the fundamental values of our legal system and stipulates a prohibition against discrimination based on sex. In accordance with the international and general rules of international law, the draft law stipulates fundamental principles of gender equality, as well as the general and special measures that provide a prohibition against discrimination on this basis.
