On May 29-30, 2006 a presentation of seven new films from the collection of documentary films in Bishkek entitled “Gender Assembly: Films from Post-Soviet Countries – 2006” was organized by the union of cinematographers of Kyrgyzstan and Women’s Network Program of the “Soros-Kyrgyzstan.” Among the presented films was a documentary entitled “Violence against Women and Dangerous Traditional Practices” (films from Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, and Russia). It is part of the Project of the Institute of Social and Gender Politics (Russia), Women’s Network Program of OSI (New York), International Network on Gender Policy (Czech), and Women’s Network Program of the “Soros-Kyrgyzstan.” This event was aimed at assisting women’s struggle for rights and gender equality and to increase public awareness of the issues.
