Press Conference on the Occasion of the 8th of March – International Women’s Day

The Office for Gender Equality of the Government of Montenegro and the United Nations System in Montenegro: IOM (The International Organization for Migration), UNDP (The United Nations Development Programme), UNHCR (The United Nations Refugee Agency), UNICEF (The United Nations Children's Fund) and WHO (World Health Organization) held a press conference on the occasion of 8 March, International Women's Day.

According to UN statistics:  women perform 67% of work in the world; they earn 10% of world’s income; they own 1% of world’s property; they make up 70% of the illiterate in the world; the feminization of poverty is especially visible among ethnic minorities, the Roma and the rural population; among the registered victims of human trafficking the majority are women; the number of refugee women who live in poverty is higher than the number of poor women in the local population…

Speakers at the conference were Ms. Dušica Živkovic, Head of IOM Office in Montenegro; Mr. Garret Tankosic Kelly, UNDP Montenegro Resident Representative a.i.; Ms. Robin Ellis, Head of UNHCR Office Montenegro; Ms. Branka Kovacevic, Head of UNICEF Office Montenegro; Dr. Mira Jovanovski Dašic, Head of WHO Office Montenegro and Ms. Nada Drobnjak, Head of the Office for Gender Equality of the Government of Montenegro.
