Within the project, “Advancement of electoral legislation in Montenegro: Campaign for public advocacy," the Center for Monitoring has organized the third roundtable, entitled “Women’s Representation in the Parliament of Montenegro” on April 25, 2007 in Podgorica.
The aim of this roundtable was to open discussions on the selection of concrete mechanisms for women’s representation in the Parliament of Montenegro. The discussion was held on current legal solutions and their effectiveness, comparative practice and the recommendations of international organizations. In this regard, certain suggestions have been made to advance the participation of women in parliament in qualitative and quantitative ways.
Also, this meeting was a good opportunity to sum up current strengths in this regard. An introductory note was given by Olivera Komar. A presentation on the topic, “Legal framework of gender equality” was given by Ph.D. Marijana Pajvancic, while the presentation on the topic “Women’s right to vote in Montenegro” was given by the head of the Gender Equality Office, Nada Drobnjak, who presented the research on this topic.
