An organization engaging in strategic planning at the beginning of its development can use this opportunity to articulate mission, vision and value statements. An organization engaging in strategic planning later in its development that already has mission, vision and value statements should use this opportunity to revisit and reevaluate those statements.
As described in more detail in the discussion of mission, vision and value statements in this section, a mission statement should include information about the organization's purpose, business, values and beneficiaries. The mission statement might also describe how the organization is uniquely situated to achieve its purpose. A vision statement, in contrast, describes what success for the organization will look like. A value statement describes the principles or beliefs that guide the organization's members. |
