On the 7th of December 2006 a draft of a Declaration to Combat Violence Against Women was discussed in the permanent Parliamentary Commission on Human Rights and Religions. The members of the Commission were informed by Mrs. Stancheva that almost all national parliaments of CE member states have adopted similar declarations that engage the legislative power in the fight against violence against women.
The Declaration of the Bulgarian Parliament made a priority of the efforts to combat violence against women in the legislature, and in the powers controlled by the Parliament.
The Declaration was supported in the plenary by Mrs. Emilia Maslarova, Minister of Labour and Social Policy. She declared that the Ministry, which is the responsible institution for building the administrative capacity to combat domestic violence, fully supports the adoption of the Parliamentary Declaration on the campaign, which aims to raise the awareness of the society of the real scale of domestic violence problems.
