International Treaties
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 1 January 1993. The Optional Protocol was ratified on 28 May 1993 and entered into force on 1 January 1993 . The Second Optional Protocol was ratified on 22 June 1999 and entered into force on 22 September 1999.
International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993 and entered into force on 28 May 1993 with no reservations or declarations. Since Czechoslovakia had ratified CESCR on 23 December 1975, Slovakia considered itself bound as of 1 January 1993, the date of dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 27 June 1993. The Optional Protocol was ratified on 17 November 2000 and entered into force 22 December 2000.
International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993. Entered into force on 27 June 1993.
Convention on the Rights of the Child: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993 and entered into force on 1 January 1993 with an amendment to Article 43 (2) on 29 July 1999. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict has not been signed or ratified. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography was signed on 30 November 2001.
Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993 with declarations on Article 20 and Article 30. Entered into force on 28 May 1993. No action has been taken on the Optional Protocol.
International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families: No action has been taken.
Convention relating to the Status of Refugees: Succeeded to on 4 February 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 5 May 1993. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was ratified on the same date.
Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery: Succeeded to on 28 May 1993.
Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children: Signed on 15 November 2001. Slovakia has not yet ratified the Protocol.
Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Ratified on 11 April 2002 with no reservations.
ILO C29 Forced Labour Convention: Ratified on 1 January 1993.
ILO C111 Discrimination (Employment & Occupation) Convention: Ratified on 1 January 1993.
ILO C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention: No action has been taken.
ILO C182 Worst Forms of Child Labour: Ratified on 20 December 2000.

Statute of the Council of Europe: Acceded to and entered into force on 30 June 1993.
European Social Charter (revised): Signed only on 18 November 1999.
(European) Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Protocols 1-8: Ratified on 18 March 1992. The Slovak government ratified Protocol 9 on 7 May 1992, Protocol 10 on 26 June 1992 and Protocol 11 on 28 September 1994. No action has been taken on Protocols 12, 13 and 14.
European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Ratified on 11 May 1994 and entered into force on 1 September 1994. Protocol No. 1 and Protocol No. 2 were ratified on 11 May 1994 and entered into force on 1 March 2002.
