International Treaties

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992. Entered into force on 25 June 1991. The Optional Protocol was acceded to on 16 July 1993 with reservations and declarations. The Second Optional Protocol was ratified on 10 March 1994 and entered into force on 10 June 1994.

Convention on the Political Rights of Women: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992.

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992 with no reservations and entered into force on the same date.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992 with no reservations. Entered into force on 5 August 1992. The Optional Protocol was signed on 10 December 1999 and ratified on 23 September 2004.

International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992 with no reservations. Entered into force on the same date.

Convention on the Rights of the Child: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992 with no reservations. Entered into force on 25 June 1991. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict and the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography were signed on 8 September 2000 and ratified on 23 September 2004.

Convention relating to the Status of Refugees: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992. Entered into force on 4 October 1992. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was succeeded to on the same date.

Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery: Succeeded to on 6 July 1992.

Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Acceded to on 16 July 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 15 August 1993. Acceded to the Optional Protocol 23 January 2007.

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Ratified on 31 December 2001.

ILO C29 Forced Labour Convention: Ratified on 29 May 1992.

ILO C111 Discrimination (Employment & Occupation) Convention: Ratified on 29 May 1992. 

ILO C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention: Ratified on 29 May 1992. 

ILO C182 Worst Forms of Child Labour: Ratified on 8 May 2001.

United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime: Signed on 12 December 2000. Ratified on 21 May 2004. The Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea, and Air, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Crime was signed on 15 November 21, and ratified on 21 May 2004.

United Nations Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, Supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime: Signed on 15 November 2001; Ratified on 24 April 2004.

 

Regional Treaties

Statute of the Council of Europe: Slovenia became a member of the Council of Europe on 14 May 1993.

European Social Charter, the Additional Protocol to the European Social Charter, and the Additional Protocol to the European Social Charter Providing a System for Collective Complaints: Signed on 11 October 1997. Not yet entered into force.

European Social Charter (revised): Ratified on 7 May 1999 with declarations. Entered into force on 1 July 1999.

European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Ratified on 28 June 1994 with no reservations. Entered into force on the same date. Protocols 1-11 were ratified on 28 June 1994, and Protocol 13 was signed on 3 May 2002 and ratified on 4 December 2003. Protocol 12 was signed on 7 March 2001. Protocol 14 was signed on 13 May 2004.

European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Ratified on 2 February 1994 with no reservations. Entered into force on 1 June 1994. Protocol No.1 to the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Protocol No.2 to the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture were both ratified on 16 February 1995 with no reservations. Entered into force on 1 March 2002.

(European) Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: Ratified on 25 March 1998 with declarations. Entered into force on 1 July 1998.

Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings: Adopted by National Assembly on 15 June 2009.

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families: No action has been taken.
