Women’s NGO SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victims of Violence Podgorica Receives Award as Extraordinary Voluntary Organization

The South-East Europe Youth Network, a network of organizations active in different countries in South East Europe within the central office–secretariat in Sarajevo, BiH, promotes social values, as well as the development of social capital in local communities with the aim to establish a regional center or institute for voluntary service.

During the month of September, SEEYN organized a regional event entitled SEEYN Days of Volunteerism in Sarajevo on September 19-21, 2006. The general sponsor of this event was the Danish Ministry of the Interior. This 3-day event hosted many institutions and long-term partners from Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and FYROM, with the aim of promoting cooperation in SEE through volunteerism, philanthropy and cultural happenings. During business hours, many academic lectures were held covering the following topics: volunteerism, voluntary service, community development, responsibility

through philanthropy, youth policies, legal frames, etc., In the evening, there were three events: a Promotional Concert for Youth, the SEE Night for promoting cultures in SEE, and SEEYN Award Night.

At the SEEYN Award Night, held on September 21, 2006, SOS Hotline for women and children victims of violence Podgorica received an award for Extraordinary Voluntary Organization since, with its work they contributed to the development of volunteerism in Montenegro. From the beginning of its existence in 1997, this women’s NGO, in its basic working principles, has the principle of work as its voluntary basis when working with its clients/beneficiaries, women and children survivors of violence; every day, for five hours per day, SOS Hotline has individual contacts with clients, conducts mediation between clients and institutions competent in solving the problem of violence against women, and provides legal, psychological and pedagogical help, etc.
