As stay at home orders have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of domestic violence cases has risen worldwide.
In Canada, as in many countries, incidents of domestic violence have gone up since shutdowns have been put in place. As part of its national plan to counter national damages due to COVID-19, the Canadian government has allocated funding to combatting violence against women. Quebec and Ontario have included shelters for women survivors in its list of essential services.

The Advocates for Human Rights is closely monitoring the new challenges justice systems actors are facing in addressing domestic violence and sexual violence under the coronavirus situation and providing accurate, up-to-date information on violence against women around the world.
