As stay at home orders have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of domestic violence cases has risen worldwide.
In Canada, as in many countries, incidents of domestic violence have gone up since shutdowns have been put in place. As part of its national plan to counter national damages due to COVID-19, the Canadian government has allocated funding to combatting violence against women. Quebec and Ontario have included shelters for women survivors in its list of essential services.
