As stay at home orders have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of domestic violence cases has risen worldwide.
In France in just one week at the end of March, domestic violence increased by 32%, and by 36% in Paris. The French Government has set up “pop-up” domestic violence services at grocery stores and code words at pharmacies. The government has also subsidized over 20,000 hotel rooms as an alternative to emergency shelters.

The Advocates for Human Rights is closely monitoring the new challenges justice systems actors are facing in addressing domestic violence and sexual violence under the coronavirus situation and providing accurate, up-to-date information on violence against women around the world.
