The Association of Health Journalists of Gambia and the United Nations Population Fund jointly sponsored a three-day workshop on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) for 30 journalists in Bijilo in July, 2010.  The workshop was to train journalists on the effects of FGM on women and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and human rights. Dr. Isatou Touray, director of the women’s NGO Gamcotrap and a speaker at the workshop, said, “It is through such initiatives that sustainable change is possible in the campaign to eradicate FGM within a highly resistant society.”
