The National Violence Against Women Monitor for Montenegro is SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victims of Violence in Podgorica, Montenegro.  This organization operates an SOS hotline for women and children who are survivors of violence, provides direct legal and psychological services for these survivors, and conducts public appearances, media promotions and campaigns focusing on influencing public opinion and government policy relating to violence and discrimination against women and children.

Vanja Mikulic, an Project Manager with SOS Hotline, will take the leading role in managing the STOPVAW country page for the Republic of Montenegro. SOS Hotline will be assisted in its National VAW Monitor role by Irena Milatovic, an Expert Consultant working with the Gender Equality Office of the Government of Montenegro.

(FOSI–ROM) provides funding to the SOS Hotline for Women and Children Victims of Violence in Podgorica, Montenegro to carry out work on the National VAW Monitor Program. The FOSI-ROM works with the government and NGOs to reform education, increase citizen participation in politics and policymaking, expand freedom of information, advocate for Romani rights, and make governance more efficient and transparent.

The Foundation’s projects have focused on the following issues, among others:

  • strengthening judicial institutions;
  • increasing cooperation between NGOs and the state;
  • providing Montenegrin journalists with techniques for reporting human rights violations, governance, and corruption issues;
  • improving Roma education, increasing Romani family involvement with the school system, and supporting radio programs that political participation and equal education for Roma;
  • developing projects to prevent violence against women; and
  • encouraging public involvement in advocating for legislation on issues such as corruption, organized crime, and trafficking in human beings.
