The current “ NATIONAL PLAN OF ACTIONS on the improvement of position of women and assistance to introduction of gender equality in society on 2001 - 2005 years” ( Ukrainian) ( unofficial translation) was adopted by decision of Cabinet of Ministers May, 6, 2001 N 479.
The plan contains the following actions related to violence against women, inter alia:
- To support the activities of institutions, centers and services, which provide medical, psychological and social assistance to women and children victims of violence (including domestic violence) or who are in a crisis situation.
These activities are to be constantly conducted by the Ministry of Family, Children and Youth, Ministry of Health ,and regional and local state administrations.
- To continue the study, generalization and distribution of international experiences in matters of prevention of trafficking in women and children, to conduct seminars, working meetings, and "round tables" on these problems.
These activities are to be constantly conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Administration of Border Control, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Family, Children and Youth, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Labor.
- To include themes of prevention of violence against women and prevention of trafficking in women in online tutorials for high schools and higher education institutions.
These activities are to be conducted in 2001-2005 by the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Family, Children and Youth with participation of La-Strada Ukraine.
- To organize studies for professionals, which in the process of the activity, conduct work with women and children victims of violence.
These activities are to be conducted in 2001-2005 by Ministry of Family, Children and Youth, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Education and Science.
- To conduct informative and explanatory work among the population on the problems of prevention of trafficking in women. To provide for the publication and distribution of special editions (bulletins, brochures, recommendations, sights and others).
These activities are to be constantly conducted by the State Committee of Information, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Family, Children and Youth, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and State Committee of Communication.
- To take part in the development and implementation of international programs and protocols in relation to the prevention of trafficking in women.
These activities are to be constantly conducted bythe Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Family, Children and Youth, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and State Committee of Statistics.
Ukraine has submitted a response (Russian) (PDF, 12 pages) to the U.N. questionnaire on the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action. To prepare for a "Review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly" during its forty-ninth session, the U.N. Division for the Advancement of Women sent another questionnaire (PDF, 18 pages) to all governments requesting information on accomplishments and obstacles to implementing the Beijing Platform for Action. Responses were due by 30 April 2004. Ukraine has not yet submitted a response. |
