International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Acceded to on 4 October 1991 with no reservations. Entered into force on 4 January 1992. No action has been taken on either the Optional Protocol or the Second Optional Protocol.

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Acceded to on 4 October 1991 with no reservations. Entered into force on 4 January 1992.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women: Ratified on 11 May 1994 with no reservations. Entered into force on 10 June 1994. The Optional Protocol was acceded to on 23 June 2003 with no reservations. Entered into force on 23 September 2003.

International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Acceded to on 11 May 1994 with no reservations. Entered into force on 10 June 1994.

Convention on the Rights of the Child: Ratified on 27 February 1992 with no reservations. Entered into force on 28 March 1992. No action has been taken on the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict or the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography.

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Acceded to on 11 May 1994 with no reservations. Entered into force on 10 June 1994. The Optional Protocol was signed on 1 October 2003.

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families: No action has been taken.

Convention relating to the Status of Refugees: Acceded to on 18 August 1992 with no reservations. Entered into force on 16 November 1992. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was acceded to on 18 August 1992 with no reservations.

Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery: Acceded to on 6 November 1958 with no reservations and entered into force on the same day.

Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children: Ratified on 21 August 2002 with no reservations.

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Ratified on 31 January 2003.

ILO C29 Forced Labour Convention: Ratified on 25 June 1957.

ILO C111 Discrimination (Employment & Occupation) Convention: Ratified on 27 February 1997. 

ILO C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention: No action has been taken. 

ILO C182 Worst Forms of Child Labour: Ratified on 2 August 2001.

Regional Treaties

Statute of the Council of Europe: Albania became a member of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995.

European Social Charter (revised): Ratified on 14 November 2002. Entered into force on 1 January 2003.

(European) Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Ratified and entered into force on 2 October 1996 with declarations that were withdrawn on 26 July 1997. Protocols 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8 were signed and entered into force on 2 October 1996. Protocol 6 was ratified on 21 September 2000 and entered force on 1 October 2000. Protocol 7 was signed on 2 October 1996 and entered force on 1 January 1997. Protocol 11 was signed on 2 October 1996 and entered into force on 1 November 1998. Protocols 12 and 13 were signed only on 26 May 2003.

European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Ratified on 2 October 1996 with no reservations and entered into force on 1 February 1997. Protocol No.1 and Protocol No.2 were ratified on 2 October 1996 and entered into force on 1 March 2002.

(European) Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: Ratified on 28 September 1999. Entered into force on 1 January 2000.
