International Treaties

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Acceded to on 4 January 1999 with a declaration on Article 41. Entered into force on 4 April 1999. The Optional Protocol was acceded to on 4 January 1999 with no reservations and entered into force on 4 April 1999. The Second Optional Protocol has neither been signed nor ratified.

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Acceded to on 4 January 1999 with no reservations. Entered into force on 4 April 1999.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women: Acceded to on 26 October 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 25 November 1993. The Optional Protocol was signed only on 7 September 2000.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Acceded to on 11 January 1995. Entered into force 10 February 1995.

Convention on the Rights of the Child: Acceded to on 26 October 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 25 November 1993. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict was acceded to on 5 August 2002 and entered into force on 5 September 2002 with a declaration on Article 3. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography was acceded to on 5 August 2002 with no reservations and entered into force on 5 September 2002.

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Acceded to on 11 January 1995. Entered into force 10 February 1995. The Optional Protocol has neither been signed nor ratified.

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families: Ratified on 8 January 2002. Entered into force on 1 July 2003.

Convention relating to the Status of Refugees: Acceeded to on 7 December 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 7 March 1994. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was ratified on the same date.

Convention on Consent to Marriage, Minimum Age for Marriage and Registration of Marriages: No action has been taken.

Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery: No action has been taken.

Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others: Acceded to on 19 October 2001. Entered into force on 17 January 2002.

Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children: Acceded to on 8 July 2002.

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Ratified on 5 May 2000.
