Battered Woman Fights for Child Custody after Employment Whistleblowing Exposes Flaws in the Ruling
10/9/2008 12:22 PM

Michele Egan-Byron filed a petition in the U.S. state of Florida in mid-September to vacate an old order which had granted custody of her child to her ex-husband. Egan-Byron claims that she lost custody of her son after she exposed her employer’s embezzlement, which prompted colleagues to testify against her in the custody case.

Egan-Byron claims that her ex-husband abused both her and their special-needs son. He won custody of the child in 2004 because of negative testimony that was given about Egan-Byron. She filed the petition in Florida's Palm Beach County asking for the court to take jurisdiction of the case from Volusia County, where Egan-Byron previously lived, and to vacate the old order.
