Calls Reporting Violence Have Increased over the Holidays 8/6/2008 4:59 PMContributed by: Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation, Bulgaria National VAW Monitor
An increase in calls reporting domestic violence during the holidays - from Easter to St. George Day - has been registered by "Deva" Foundation. On the crisis phone line, 15 calls were received. 10 of them were connected with violence in the family. 4 calls were in connection with violence against elderly and children. The worst case was that of a fight between relatives who were on a visit in a village in Plovdiv region. While they were celebrating, a quarrel started, and then a mass fight broke out. In the fight, chairs were broken and some of the people brandished axes.
