  • The Committee commended the Government regarding its massive legislative initiatives and related activities aimed at eliminating discrimination against women and promoting gender equality and protection against violence, as well as for its implementation of a number of programs and projects for the advancement of women. The Committee expressed concern regarding the poor implementation of the gender equality law (as well as the direct application of CEDAW as part of domestic legislation - due to the BH Constitution). Further, the Committee noted that Gender Equality Agency has legal authority vis-à-vis the relevant ministries, and no actual political power, and that this should be changed. The issue of trafficking is recognized as an alarming problem in BH, especially regarding new trends and the lack of effective protection measures for victims.
