Working Group Meets About Draft Law on Domestic Violence in Armenia 10/7/2008 1:49 AMThe Women’s Rights Center working group held a regular meeting on October 1, 2008, in the Armenia-Marriott Hotel in Yerevan to discuss the final version of the Draft Law on Domestic Violence in Armenia, and to work out a strategy for further promotion of the Draft and Package of Supporting Regulations. The working group, as mentioned in previous press releases, consists of highly ranked officials from the RA Police, Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, Ministry of Justice, etc. A representative of OSI-AF Armenia, Naira Altunyan, was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, an OSCE/ODIHR expert, Irina Urumova, presented the most recent version of the revised Draft and the contents of the package of supporting regulations. Participants also heard comments by the Head of the Legal Division of the Department of Expertise of Legal Acts of the Apparat of the Ministry of Justice, Artak Gevorgyan.
After the break, the participants discussed further strategy on advocating and lobbying for the Draft.
WRC is planning to present the Draft with the supporting documents to the National Assembly in the end of 2008.
