Intermediary Organizations
last updated August 31, 2003

There are many intermediary organizations—organizations that provide assistance and support to NGOs—that work internationally, regionally and nationally. Although not a comprehensive listing, what follows is a list of some of the organizations in CEE/FSU that are working in this area:

  • The Resource Alliance provides capacity building and resource mobilization support to NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • The European Foundation Centre's Rapid Aid Fund seeks to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and good practices between organizations in CEE/CIS and to develop member capacity. One of RAF's current priorities is coalition building through study visits organized by members of the Orpheus Civil Society Network.
  • INTRAC, the International NGO Training and Research Centre, provides organizational and management support to international development NGOs around the world.
  • Civil Society International seeks to support civil society organizations both worldwide and, in particular, in CEE/CIS, that are working for democratic institutions, clean environments, and liberal economic systems that promote enterprise and reflect human solidarity and compassion. CSI provides lists of organizations by countries and networking resources.
  • FundersOnline is an initiative of the European Foundation Centre (EFC). The EFC promotes and supports the work of corporate funders in Europe and, through the Orpheus Program, provides public information about corporate funders in Europe. The website contains information about designing applications and links to research organizations specialized in the nonprofit sector.
  • Both the GURT Resource Center for NGO Development and the Innovation and Development Centre in Kyiv, Ukraine provide technical support to Ukranian NGOs. Peace Corp Ukraine is in the process of developing a NGO Advisor Toolkit, which may provide infrastructural support for Ukrainian NGOs.
  • KlonJawor provides technical assistance to NGOs in Poland.
  • The NGO Training and Resource Center in Yerevan provides infrastructural support to Armenian NGOs.
  • The Baltic American Partnership Fund provides grants to intermediary NGOs that work to strengthen the capacity and sustainability of NGOs through legal reform, technical support and advocacy initiatives.
