The Committee welcomed the establishment of the Council for Human Rights of the Government in 1998 and the Office of the Public Protector of Rights in 1999. The Committee expressed concern, however, over the increasing rate of unemployment among women and the Roma. The Committee also noted the disparity in earnings between women and men, as women earned approximately 75% of what men earned. The Committee was also concerned as the Penal Code did not have a provision specifically protecting women from domestic violence. Also, it expressed concern over the increase in trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children. The Committee requested that Czech government provide statistical data on the rights of women and Roma in the next report, adopt legislation on domestic violence and intensify its efforts to address gender inequality, trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.
