  • Concluding observations of the Committee
  • The Committee welcomed the establishment of the Committee for National and Ethnic Minorities. It also noted the mandate of the Office of Plenipotentiary for Equal Gender Status's expansion to cover all forms of discrimination. The Committee was concerned that cases of racial hatred had been dismissed due to perceived minimal societal damage. The Committee felt that all incidences of racial hatred are equally harmful. The Committee was also concerned over reports of racially motivated harassment against Jews, Roma, and people of African and Asian origin. The Committee suggested that the Polish government strengthen its efforts to deal with all cases. The Committee also welcomed the government's implementation of a program that guaranteed the rights of the Roma population in the Malopolska region, encouraging the government to extend the program to all regions of the country. The Committee affirmed efforts to include human rights education in school curriculum and encouraged the government to expand its efforts beyond schools to the mass media.
