- Concluding observations of the Committee (French) (Spanish)
- The Committee commended Moldova's efforts in establishing institutions that were effective in enhancing concordance with human rights. Among these efforts were the establishment of the Parliamentary Advocates and the Centre for Human Rights. The Committee listed several concerns. The Committee stated that, despite efforts to stop activities of persons involved in the smuggling of individuals, extensive trafficking, particularly of women, continues. The Committee recommended that the Moldovan government reinforce efforts to end the trafficking of women, both those native to the country and those traveling through the country. The Committee also addressed the representation of women in Parliament and the executive branch, acknowledging that there have been gradual improvements. The Committee remained concerned, however, that the number of women participating in the political and economic actions of the State Party was disproportionately low. The Committee recommended that the government take measures to ensure that women be on equal ground with men in political, public, and other sectors of Moldovan life. Finally, the Committee expressed concern that the delegation could not answer the question of whether Moldova's practice of utilizing abortion as a primary means of contraception was the cause of a high level of maternal mortality. The Committee recommended that the State party should assess the issue of abortion and maternal mortality, taking measures to reduce the maternal death rate.
