The Committee appreciated steps taken to promote gender equality. However, it expressed concerns about discrimination against women, in particular the low numbers of women in decision-making positions and in political life. The Committee recommended that the Romanian government take prompt action to combat discrimination against women and to achieve higher representation of women in government positions, as well as more senior positions in the public and private sectors. The Committee also expressed concern about domestic violence against women and recommended that the Romanian government take appropriate action, both through legislative reform and practice, to provide women with protective measures before the courts to prevent violence from potential abusers.
