The Committee commended the Ukraine Government for its national plan of action to improve the situation of women. The Government has also shown willingness to work with the U.N. and other agencies in the areas of gender equality, women and children’s health, the review of human rights legislation, and the trafficking of persons.Among concerns of the Committee is the position of women in society and their continued discrimination.The Committee recommended that future reports include comparative data on the representation of women in various administrative levels to show the level of progress made and that the Government take up measures to reduce the unemployment among women. The Committee indicated concern over the large-scale trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of women and children. Additionally, the Committee is troubled by the quality of health care and the deteriorating health of vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. It noted the rise in contraction of sexually transmitted diseases and spread of HIV/AIDS and recommended that the Government include comprehensive reproductive health programs into primary health care.
