National Program on Violence Prevention In November 2003, the Government of Montenegro adopted a National Program for Violence Prevention. Since the adoption, funds for implementation have not been provided yet. The SOS hotline for women and children victims of violence – Podgorica, participated in the development of this program.
Selected Provisions of the Criminal Code of Montenegro (Unofficial Translation) The Montenegrin Criminal Code, adopted in 1993 and last amended in December 2003, punishes criminal offences against sexual freedom (Article 204-212), violence in the family or family community (Article 220), and trafficking in human beings (Article 444).
Summary of the Family Law of the Republic of Montenegro (Official Gazette of the Republic of Montenegro, no. 7/89) Concrete measures for the protection of abused women and children are established within legal framework of Family Law and Criminal Law. Family law regulates marriage, marriage relationships, relations between parents and children, adoption, custody, sustenance, relations in the family in terms of property, and in particular proceedings in the plea from marital and family relations.
