Some pages organize annotated lists of funders into categories, such as "international" or "women's rights." On these pages, selecting a category will generate an annotated list. Although such lists are not searchable, the browser's "find" function can be used to locate funders with particular interests. The following "find" commands may be useful for grantseekers in CEE/CIS: "women," "europe," "soviet union," "independent states," "domestic violence," "international," etc. As described in the section on using the internet effectively, it is necessary to click on a particular page or window containing the information before using the "find" function in this way.
Charity Village offers a list of non-profit organizations in Canada subdivided into directories such as "international development" or "women." The keyword search only generates links to categories of nonprofits. Grantseekers can select the "international development" directory and use the "find" function to identify organizations that work in the region.
Fundsnet provides categories of funders, such as "international," "foundations" or "women's grants." The lists of funders in each of these categories are annotated, thus allowing searches using the browser's "find" function.
Michigan State University offers lists of foundations organized by subject matter. Clicking on a subject matter generates a set of annotated links that can be visually scanned or searched using the browser's "find" function.
Independent Charities of America provides categories of donors such as "women," "human rights," and "international relief." Once a category is selected, the website generates a list of foundations working in that field. The list is not annotated, but the entire database of charities can be searched by keyword. Because the search function will also search for partial matches, it is better to search for smaller root words, such as "elect" rather than "election."
Some pages are not categorized, but have only annotated lists of donors. These pages can be searched by using the browser's "find" function.
Other pages only offer lists of donors categorized by subject-matter, without annotations. Although a search can be narrowed by choosing a relevant subject matter category (i.e., "women's issues"), search results cannot be further refined.
Finally, some resources offer only simple lists of donors. These lists do not contain any description of the funder or its activities, and are not searchable.
