International Woman's Solidarity Day will be actively celebrated in the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania on on March 7, 2007. This is the second time that the conference discussing women's issues on a national level will take part in the light of celebrating March 8th. The tradition started last year when the Women's MPs group, actively supported by the women's NGOs, organized the conference to debate women's issues. This year the conference will present the results of the work of Seimas, government and public institutions in the field of comabting gender-based discrimination and policy actions in improving gender equality legislation, sexual education, gender health care and gender realization. Women will be nominated who are most influential in the field of promoting of equal opportunities.
- On March 8, the Office of the Ombudsperson for Equal Opportunities organized a press conference to present the booklet Arithmetic of Power which will introduce the gender imbalance in all state institutions. The Center for Equality Advancement collected the information on the heads and some other important positions in all state institutions such as Seimas, government, president, all ministries, institutions accountable to ministries, law enforcement institutions and embassies of the Republic of Lithuania along gender lines, and found the proportion of occupying these positions by women and men was 1 to 10.
- On March 8, the seminar Images of Businesswomen in Media will take place in Kaunas at the Vytautas Magnus University. The event will be followed by the Annual Award of Women Philantropists at the historical President's Palace in Kaunas.
