Montenegro, as an independent state and new member state of the United Nations as of 28 June 2006, is to develop its first Initial Report on the Convention of Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Each member state is obliged to develop initial report one year after the ratification of the Convention at the latest (according to Article 18).
The Initial Report that covered the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro was submitted to the United Nations on 5 May 2006. The Serbian Report has been examined at the 38th session of the CEDAW Committee.
