A few months ago Lithuania adopted the National Antidiscrimination Program for 2006-2008. This program aims to provide a complex analysis on the forms of discrimination against gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, race/ethnicity, and religious belief in all spheres of the society. Additionally, it seeks to provide effective education on tolerance and non-discrimination, raise awareness on diversity, improve the legal basis to combat discrimination, and involve society actively in prevention activities and work. Much of the activities include awareness raising campaigns on tolerance and openness for diversity for the Year of Equal Opportunities in 2007. Also, the program includes the initiation of the research on multiple discrimination in order to identify the hidden problems of discrimination in the labour market and the public and private sectors. The Program will be financed from the budget of the government of Lithuania with the help of EU structural funds.
