Guidestar provides an excellent search engine for U.S.-based donors. It may be useful to try different kinds of searches with this engine. For example, grantseekers may want to search the category of "International" or one of the international subcategories such as "International Human Rights" using one or more keywords, such as "women," "europe" (for CEE) or "independent" (for CIS).
CharityNet is organized by type of organization (i.e., "foundations"). On subsequent pages, grantseekers can add criteria such as a keyword, theme or country. (This multiple-criteria search page can also be reached by selecting the "Find" tab on the top of the main page, and then clicking on the "advanced find" option at the bottom of that tab.) CharityNet's engine only searches for organizations that have registered with CharityNet.
The Foundation Center maintains a database of annotated links to donor websites. This database is searchable by sector type (i.e., private foundations, corporate grantmakers, grantmaking public charities, and community foundations) and by keyword. Grantsmart provides a database almost identical to that offered by the Foundation Center (in a smaller window). As with the Foundation Center's database, the advanced search function can be used to search the previous result and thus to narrow the search.
CCI Net provides a limited database of "company giving" web pages organized by country, issue, and keyword. |
