Second Roundtable Discussion on Draft of Republic of Armenia Law on Domestic Violence 7/22/2008 4:17 AMWithin the framework of the “Combating Domestic Violence in Armenia through Legislative Initiative on Domestic Violence” project, the Women’s Rights Center organized the second roundtable discussion on the Draft of RA Law on Domestic Violence on 2 July 2008 at the Armenia-Marriott Hotel.
40 representatives from OSCE-ODIHR (Warsaw), OSI, Amnesty International, the Police, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, RA Human Rights Defender’s office, Legal Department of the RA Government, as well as Women’s Resource Center, Armenian Association of Women with University Education and other NGOs were present at the roundtable. During the discussion, participants discussed the recent version of the draft law and expressed their opinions.
Representatives of OSCE-ODIHR, Anna Platonova and Marta Achler Szelenbaum, expressed their opinions about the draft law and about the general flow of the project.
It has been concluded that the initiative of WRC on advocacy and lobbying the Draft Law on Domestic Violence is timely and is addressing the needs of the society. Participants expressed their interest in further cooperation and firm intention to make the adoption of the law a reality.
