Study Visit to Prague of Armenian Domestic Violence Law Working Group

Within the framework of the “Combating Domestic Violence in Armenia through Legislative Initiative on Domestic Violence” project,  the Women’s Rights Center organized a Study Visit of the Armenian Domestic Violence Law Working Group to Prague, Czech  Republic (08-14 June, 2008). The aim of the visit was to get acquainted with the Czech experience of implementation of a Domestic Violence Law, and to meet with governmental officials and representatives

of the public sector who deal with domestic violence in their work.

The working group of Women’s Rights Center, which has been working on drafting the Armenian Law on Domestic Violence, consists of representatives of the RA Police, Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, etc.

During the visit to Prague, working group members met with representatives of the Police Training College, White Circle of Safety NGO, Police Group for Domestic Violence of Brno, Municipal Police in Prague,

House of Parliament, Ministry of Health, Judge JUDr. Durdík,  Prof. Strejc, and visited the Intervention Centre in Prague.

Participants were highly impressed by the level of implementation of the Law. The common opinion was that the visit was very helpful, and it shall impact the work of the working group in the elaboration of the final version of the draft of the Armenian Domestic Violence Law.
