International Treaties

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Acceded to on 26 January 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 26 April 1993. No action has been taken on the Optional Protocol or the Second Optional Protocol.

International Covenant on Economic, Social & Cultural Rights: Acceded to on 26 January 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 26 April 1993.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women: Acceded to on 1 July 1994 with no reservations. Entered into force on 31 July 1994. Optional Protocol: No action has been taken.

International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Acceded to on 26 January 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 25 February 1993.

Convention on the Rights of the Child: Acceded to on 26 January 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 25 February 1993. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict  was ratified on 7 April 2004. Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography were signed on 8 February 2002.

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Ratified on 28 November 1995 with no reservations. Entered into force on 28 December 1995. No action has been taken on the Optional Protocol

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families: No action has been taken. 

Convention relating to the Status of Refugees: Acceded to on 31 January 2002 with declarations and reservations. Entered into force on 1 May 2002. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was ratified on the same date.

Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery: No action has been taken.

Optional Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children: Signed on 14 December 2000.

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Signed on 8 September 2000.

ILO Convention No. C29 Forced Labour Convention: Ratified on 23 March 2000.

ILO Convention No. C111 Discrimination (Employment & Occupation) Convention: Ratified on 12 August 1996.

ILO Convention C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention: No action has been taken.

ILO Convention No. C182 Concerning the Prohibition & Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour: Ratified on 14 June 2002.

Regional Treaties

Statute of the Council of Europe: Moldova became a member of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995.

European Social Charter (revised): Ratified on 8 November 2001 with declarations. Entered into force on 1 January 2002.

(European) Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Ratified on 12 September 1997 with a declaration. Entered into force on the same date. Protocols 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11 were ratified on 12 September 1997. Protocols 9, 10 and 14, : No action has been taken. Protocol 12 was signed on 4 Nov 2000. Protocol 13 was signed on 3 May 2002.

European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Ratified on 4 October 1994, together with Protocol 1 and Protocol 2, with no reservations.

(European) Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: Ratified on 20 November 1996 with no reservations.  Entered into force on 1 February 1998.
