International Treaties

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights:  Ratified on 23 June 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 23 September 1993. The Optional Protocol was ratified on the same date. The Second Optional Protocol: No action has been taken.

International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights:  Ratified on 13 September 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 13 December 1993.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women:  Ratified on 13 September 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 13 October 1993. The Optional Protocol was ratified on 23 May 2006. 

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination:  Ratified on 23 June 1993. Entered into force on 23 July 1993.

Convention on the Rights of the Child:  Ratified on 23 June 1993 with no reservations and entered into force on 22 July 1993. Both the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict nor the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography were signed on 24 September 2003.

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment:  Ratified on 13 September 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force 12 October 1993. Optional Protocol: No action has been taken

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families: No action has been taken.

The Convention relating to the Status of Refugees:  Ratified on 6 July 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 4 October 1993. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was ratified on the same date. 

Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery :No action has been taken.

Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime:  Signed on 15 November 2001 and ratified on 1 July 2003.  

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court:  Signed on 01 October 1999. Armenia has not yet ratified the Rome Statute.

ILO C111 Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention:  Ratified on 29 July 1994. 

ILO C29 Forced Labor Convention: No action has been taken.

ILO Convention C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention: No action has been taken.

ILO C182 Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention: No action has been taken.

Regional Treaties

Statute of the Council of Europe:  Ratified on 25 January 2001, making Armenia a full member of the Council of Europe. Armenia ratified the European Social Charter (revised) on 21 January 2004.

(European) Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Ratified on 26 April 2002 with a reservation on Article 5. Protocols 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 11 were ratified on 26 April 2003. Protocol 6 was ratified on 29 of September 2003. Protocol 12 was signed on 18 June 2004. Protocol 14 was signed on 13 May 2004. Protocols 9, 10 and 13: No action has been taken.

European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment:  Ratified on 18 June 2002 with no reservations. Protocol No. 1 and Protocol No. 2 were ratified on the same date.

(European) Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities:  Ratified on 20 July 1998 with no reservations.
