International Treaties

International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Succeeded to on 22 February 1993 with declarations. Entered into force on 1 January 1993. The Optional Protocol was succeeded to on 22 February 1993 and entered into force on 1 January 1993. The Second Optional Protocol was acceded to on 15 Jun 2004.

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Succeeded to on 1 January 1993 with reservations. Entered into force on 1 January 1993.

Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women: Succeeded to on 22 February 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 24 March 1993. The Optional Protocol was ratified on 26 February 2001 with no reservations and entered into force on 26 May 2001.

International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination: Succeeded to on 22 February 1993 with declaration on Article 14. Entered into force on 1 January 1993.

Convention on the Rights of the Child: Succeeded to on 22 February 1993 with reservations. Entered into force on 1 January 1993. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict was ratified on 30 November 2001 with a declaration on Article 3. Entered into force on 12 February 2002. Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography: No action has been taken.  

Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Succeeded to on 1 January 1993 with a declaration on Article 22 and 22, reservations on Article 20 and reservations on Article 30. Optional Protocol: No action has been taken.

International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families: No action has been taken.

Convention relating to the Status of Refugees: Succeeded to on 11 May 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 9 August 1993. The Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees was ratified on the same date. 

Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Signed on 13 April 1999.

Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery: Succeeded to on 22 February 1993 with no reservations. Entered into force on 22 February 1993.

Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children: Signed on 10 December 2002.

ILO C29 Forced Labour Convention: Ratified on 1 January 1993.

ILO C111 Discrimination (Employment & Occupation) Convention: Ratified on 1 January 1993.

ILO C143 Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention: No action has been taken.

ILO C182 Worst Forms of Child Labour: Ratified on 19 June 2001.

Regional Treaties

Statute of the Council of Europe: The Czech Republic became a member of the Council of Europe on 30 June 1993.

European Social Charter (revised): Signed on 4 November 2000 with a declaration on Article 20.

(European) Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Ratified on 18 March 1992. Entered into force on 1 January 1993 with reservations on Articles 5 and 6. The Czech government ratified  Protocols 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 67 and 8 on 18 March 1992. Protocol 9 was ratified on 7 May 1992 and Protocol 10 was ratified on 26 June 1992. Protocol 11 was ratified on 28 Apr 1995. Protocol 12 was signed on 4 Nov 2000. Protocol 13 was ratified on 2 July 2004. Protocol 14: No action has been taken.

European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment: Ratified on 07 September 1995 and entered into force on 01 January 1996 with no reservations. Protocol No.1 and Protocol No. 2 to the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture were ratified on 7 September 1995 and entered into force on 1 March 2002 with no reservations.

(European) Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: Ratified on 18 December 1997 with no reservations and entered into force on 1 April 1998.
