Since November 25, 2002 the Women's Shelter of Tartu is opened for battered women.  The shelter grants 24-hour service. A woman can take her children with her into the shelter.

THE WOMEN'S SHELTER OF TARTU OFFERS:

* A safe and friendly place after the act of violence (or in risk of violence).
* The possibility to calm down after the shock.
* A place for living, according to the woman's needs and our resources.
* Consultations by a professional psychologist and first aid service if necessary.
* Support by official contacts (e.g. reporting the police, finding a job or a place for living, applying for social subvention, etc), if necessary.
* Information about the juridical side of the case (conducting a process, divorce, children, etc).
* Support for starting a "new life".
* The possibility always to turn back into the shelter for planning next steps.
* A thematic library.
