The Advocates to Present at NGO CSW Forum in NY

The Advocates for Human Rights will be attending the sixtieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) which will take place at the UN Headquarters in New York City from March 14-24, 2016. Additionally, The Advocates will be presenting in the corresponding NGO CSW Forum. The Advocates will be hosting two NGO CSW Forum Parallel Events in collaboration with their Moldovan partners at Women’s Law Center (WLC) and Bulgarian partners at Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation (BGRF).

 

The first event, entitled Partnerships for Change – Human Rights Monitoring and Legal Reform on Domestic Violence, and Batterers’ Intervention Programs, will take place Wednesday March 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel of the Church Center for the United Nations (Across the street from the UN). The session will include a panel discussion with The Advocates staff, Rose Park, Director of the Women’s Program, and Beatriz Menanteau, Staff Attorney with the Women’s Program, along with international partners Angelina Zaporojan of WLC, and Genoveva Tisheva,of BGRF. The panel will discuss how partnerships can help promote legal reform and best practice standards in batterer intervention programs to combat violence against women.

 

The second event will be held on March 24, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Church Center for the United Nations. This session:The Women’s Human Rights Training Institute in Bulgaria: A Model for Capacity-Building, Monitoring and Strategic Litigation for Young Lawyers in CEE/FSU will be presented in partnership with Genoveva Tisheva of BGRF. The session will focus on the Women’s Human Rights Training Institute (WHRTI) that, since its founding in 2004, has trained over 90 lawyers in litigating on women’s rights both regionally and internationally.
