The Stop Violence Against Women website (STOPVAW), a project of The Advocates for Human Rights, is a forum for information, advocacy and change in the promotion of women's human rights around the world.
The Advocates for Human Rights (formerly Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights) originally developed this website as a tool for the promotion of women's human rights in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Mongolia, and Kosovo. Since the launch of the website, the content and subject matter has continued to grow and expand beyond this region. STOPVAW was initially developed with the support from and in consultation with the Open Society Institute's Network Women's Program, the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the University of Minnesota Human Rights Library, and Urban Planet LLC. The website is currently managed, operated, and updated by The Advocates for Human Rights. Through its growth, this website has continued to address violence against women as one of the most pervasive human rights abuses worldwide.
This site includes the following are variety of resources focused on ending the most endemic forms of violence against women: domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harrassment, trafficking in women, and other forms of gender violence worldwide.
From 2004-2007, the Country pages were developed and maintained by National Violence Against Women Monitors, a network of advocates in 24 countries. We acknowledge their efforts and thank them for their excellent work.
The Advocates for Human Rights would like to thank the following individuals for their time, expertise and assistance in developing this website.
