Equality on the basis of sex is a fundamental principle of international human rights law. All United Nations treaties guarantee the same rights to women as men. The core documents which make up the International Bill of Human Rights are: the human rights provisions of the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its two Optional Protocols. In addition, the Siracusa Principles on the Limitation and Derogation Provisions in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights provides interpretive principles on certain provisions in the ICCPR. The United Nations has also promulgated treaties that address the rights of specific members of society, such as children and migrants.
